Have you ever been in love?
how did it feel?
did it make you feel good?
did it make you vulnerable?
Love opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it lets that certain someone get inside you and mess you up from the inside. You spend your time building up all these defenses, you build a wall, a castle with a fort, a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can touch you, and no one can hurt you, but then one fine day one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life… you give them a piece of you. They didn’t ask for it but you give it to them anyway. So stupid you, not stupid them. They do something silly one day, like stare at you, or smile at you, and then, poof! Your life is changed forever. You wonder where he had been all your life. You forget what it was like before him.
You see, that’s the menacing side of love. The side that most of us refuse to see because we know it exists, and we know that It means that love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and rips you apart. It leaves you crying in the dark; and nobody wants to believe that love can do that to you, or admit that it has happened.

I guess you can never really know someone completely. That’s why it’s the most terrifying thing in the world, really—trusting someone, hoping they’ll trust you too. It’s such a precarious balance, It’s a wonder we do it at all.
So, the truth is, I asked because I wanted to know what it was that you felt for me; whether you felt anything at all. But I was too afraid to ask, because the truth is, I already know the answer. And I know a simple a phrase like ‘maybe we should be just friends’ will turn into a glass splinter piercing into the heart in a slow and painful way. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It’s a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain.
Is that love?
Maybe we should just learn to finally let go when we're hurting too much, give up when what we're feeling feels like it just isn’t enough and move on when things are not like before. There is someone out there who will love us, surely then, we will both know what true love really is.
One of the cruelest thing you can do to a person is to pretend to care about them more than you really do.
