cloudy with a chance of meatballs.

I wanted to make this day as special as I could for him.

But maybe things were not really on my side today.

It was bad enough that my last paper was a disaster. I lost ten effing marks for filling up those ten stupid boxes for the first question with stuff of nonsense. But I guess it serves me right for overlooking the diagram in the notes. I wish I could have so much as just looked through it... but I didn’t. but heck. tough luck. And I wish I could say that the worst thing that could happen was that I couldn’t answer a question because I didn’t read up on it AT ALL, but it’s not. The worst thing that could happen (has happened) is knowing something off by heart and scribbling down the answers with full confidence onto your question paper but forgetting to transfer those answers onto your answer booklet and loosing ten marks. Just like that. Well done Syaf. You and your silly mistakes.

Then, we had to rush over to PKP only to find out that they couldn’t give us our old house back and that the only houses left were the Ground Floor’s (we didn’t want those), and the nightmare on elm street- block H2, 3F. Pick, they said. And for fear of being left homeless for next semester, we picked. Ground floor it was.

The reason why we avoided the houses on the Ground Floors like the plague were simply because we prolly would get plagues (or diseases) from staying there. It’s always the warmest down there, and it’s always full of gross bugs and wormies and other unwelcomed fauna, and plus, it’s pretty musty down there. Sure enough, when we checked out the place after we left the office, we discovered it was super yucky. They say it hasn’t been inhabited for two sems already but there was bread on the table. Now, don’t tell me that was from last year!? Euuuuwwwwiiiiieeee! The kitchen sink was a mess, our rooms had green mould growing all over the walls, and our lockers were all ruined because of the mould (and if I go on I’d prolly get sued.)

I was ready to throw a fit.

But when I got home, I was too tired to throw a fit so I tried to sleep to burn off some of that anger but spent an hour staring at the ceiling instead so I thought I should start packing but decided that wasn’t working out so I got the pan and boiled the water for the spaghetti.

I had been planning this for ages. A little picnic by the lake for his birthday. It was going to be romantic. I planned to cook spaghetti meatballs and we’d eat and watch people kayaking (if there were still people kayaking by then) and talk and breathe in the evening air before I handed him his present. But things didn’t quite turn out the way I had planned. Firstly, I burned the spaghetti. Yes, I know, you’re asking how could you ever burn spaghetti. All you do is just plop in it boiling water, add a dollop of oil and a pinch of salt and wait a few minutes and voila. But I think I waited too many few minutes that it over cooked and got burned. I did manage to save most of it though. Though it was a crying shame I had to chuck out the burned bits and cook another batch to make up for the loss.

tut-tut-tut.

Then, when it was time to cook the sauce I plonked the whole content of the tin inside the pan only to realize that I forgot to sauté the onions and garlic first. So I had to remove the sauce from the pan and sauté the onions and garlic. Then I added the sauce, a little salt and pepper, tomato sauce (can't forget that) and whatever else and finished cooking. After I had transferred the cooked sauce into the tupperware, Vinn asked, Syaf, Syaf dah letak mushroom ke belum? I was like, oh damn! I had to reboil the sauce and add the mushrooms, then, transfer it to the tupperware yet again. oh, then I forgot the tomatoes pulakkk. damn you tomatoes.

Vinn helped boil the meatballs while I took a super quick shower so I could get out get dressed and fry the meatballs a little to brown them. Thank you Vinn for all your help. I love you very much! :) And then he called, said he would be running a bit late cz he was still at BB with the guys buying stuff (for his surprise party they planned to have for him- that he didn’t know about) later that night. It didn’t matter though. It had started raining and that alone was enough to dampen my spirits.

I canceled the plan and decided to just pass him the food and his presents when he gets back. It was alright though. Mission accomplished for cooking him the spaghetti meatballs anyways, though it was a shame it got cold and the sauce coagulated and got clumpy and thick and the meatballs shriveled up and weren’t as nice as when they were sizzling hot. The only downer was that I wouldn’t get to see his face when he opened his present. Nothing beats the satisfaction of watching someones expression when they open a present from you.

When he got back, I went down to see him  and pass him the stuff. I told him about the picnic and spaghetti meatballs had cooked for him, and about the present and how I was supposed to surprise him but it was still raining and there’s nothing much you can do about rain now, can you. Then, he proposed we went to one of the BK’s and have the picnic there. Not as romantic as the lake, I thought but if I wanted to see his face when he opens that box, it would have to do.

But when we got there, it was perfect. Except for the part about me getting so nervous worrying he’ll think my cooking is rubbish that I flicked the forks and they landed on the floor and he had to go wash them. Omg that was so embarrassing. -_-“ But apart from that, I think it went well. I got him to close his eyes before I presented the box in front of him. He got so malu that he didn’t want to open them! Haha... I wanted him to guess what was in the box but my card kinda gave it away.

And then , as we were in front of the gates, before we said goodbye, he leaned into me and whispered something softly into my ear. And when he drew back, his face was as red as mine. And I must have had the most foolish smile on my face as I said,

I love you too.

And I smiled like an idiot, all the way home :D

Dear Mr. Crush,

I hope you had a great evening. I'm sorry the surprise picnic didn't turn out to be much of a surprise, nor a picnic for that matter. I'm sorry the spaghetti meatballs got cold and you had to shove the thing down your throat just so you wouldn't hurt my feelings. I'm sorry I flicked the forks on the floor and they got dirty and you had to go wash them and that we had to buy our own drinks (cz I didn't prepare one), and I'm sorry I left the dessert at home in the fridge. I'm sorry me and my friends ate the dessert. I hope you like your present. Have fun experimenting with it, I know you heart B&W :)

Oh, and happy birthday rockstar. though you're a year older, you're still young at heart :D
Love, syaf.

I know I complained about the rain. But the truth is, I would walk miles and miles drenched and smiling if you were holding my hand the whole time.
